About Walton Wordsmiths

Walton Wordsmiths is a friendly writing group which aims to support local writers in Walton on Thames and its environs.

Founded in 1999 by Wendy Hughes, author of many books on local history. Following Wendy’s relocation to Rustington, Patricia Jones, author and playwright, ran the group for several years.

New members welcome

We warmly welcome new members of all abilities and writing objectives.

Opportunities for writers

Competitions, seminars and lectures are circulated. We also keep up-to-date with the activities of the Society of Authors and the Society for Women Writers and Journalists, of which some of us are members.

Regular Meetings

Our meetings are lively, mutually supportive and motivating. Manuscripts are welcomed for constructive critiques, writing prompts are fun and enlivening and writing news is shared.

So, in a nutshell

We aim to encourage the creative talents of writers of all abilities and goals, to be mutually supportive and encouraging and to keep abreast with writing news and opportunities.

An eclectic group

We create short stories, novels, plays and non-fiction. Some members have had books published and some have been shortlisted in short story and literary competitions. We’ve had plays performed at the Riverhouse Barn and at Drama Workshops in London.
