Shelley
Did not get round to submitting her short story to the Mslexia competition.
Is waiting to hear from printers regarding price to print 50 copies of ‘Beastly Magic’. Expects to get estimate today, will then print 50 copies. Will use some of these for launch.
Shelley read a short story called ‘The Arrangement’. A really lovely story which was thought to be suitable for submitting to People’s Friend. Shelley also read some of her father’s poetry; ‘Egypt’ and ‘South African Tapestry’.
Ann
No news to report.
Ann read her piece based on last month’s writing exercise; ‘he lifted the iron from the mantlepiece’. An enjoyable short story with a subtle twist at the end that was not picked up by everyone. A few more clues during the story may ensure the reader gets the twist in the tale.
Howard
Last month’s writing exercise has kicked started Howard’s writing after a long spell of writer’s block.
Howard read his piece based on last month’s writing exercise; ‘he lifted the iron from the mantlepiece’. A really fun story with lots of dialogue and an unexpected twist at the end.
Guy
Has sent off a synopsis of his anthology with a covering letter to two dozen agents and one publisher (Simon & Schuster UK). Is waiting to hear back. Will wait six weeks then if does not hear from agents or publisher, will presume they are not interested.
Writing is going well, has started a new Caroline novel based around a fictional bombing of an aircraft.
Guy read his piece based on last month’s writing exercise, around a mystery piece of hardware which was revealed to the reader at the end of the story.
Annette
Has been able to complete writing exercise set last month. No other news to report.
Annette read her piece which was about 750 words and which contained a lot of dialogue. Annette tried to give her characters a Yorkshire dialect, which to those listening did come across.
